Introduction
The focus of this programme is on the application of engineering principles to the design, development and manufacturing of mechanical devices and systems. The curriculum will teach the students to be creative and innovative in the design analysis and operation management of mechanical design systems.

To produce technically qualified Mechanical Engineers with the potential to become leaders of Energy and Manufacturing Sectors. To produce Mechanical Engineers who are committed to sustainable development of Energy and Manufacturing Sectors for the betterment of society and nation.

Students of Mechanical Engineering Programme are expected to attain the following;
Ability to acquire and apply knowledge of science and engineering fundamentals; Acquired in‐depth technical competence in a Mechanical Engineering discipline; Ability to undertake problem identification, formulation and solution in Mechanical Engineering; Ability to utilise systems approach to design and evaluate operational Performance in Mechanical Engineering; Understanding of the principles of design for sustainable development; Understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities and commitment to them; Ability to communicate effectively, not only with engineers but also with the community at large; Ability to function effectively as an individual and in a group with the capacity to be a leader or manager; Understanding of the social, cultural, global and environmental responsibilities of a professional engineer; Recognising the need to undertake life‐long learning, and possessing /acquiring the capacity to do so; Demonstrate business acumen and entrepreneurship in Mechanical Engineering and other related businesses.
Career Prospects
Mechanical engineers are normally employed in industries producing automobiles, industrial machines and components and household appliances. The job involves designing of mechanical components and devices, supervising and maintaining the production operation. Mechanical engineers are also in demand in the oil and gas and power related.
